Lot of people don't like this vegetable, but at our home this curry made by Mom is loved by everyone. It's difficult to peel off and cut this vegetable. I got it cut from the Sabzi wala itself, even you can also get it peeled off from the market. Know as the vegetarian's meat, jackfruit or kathal (as its known in India) is a meaty and delicious fruit.

  1. Cut jackfruit in to thik slices by applying oil in the hands otherwise it may be stick in to plam wash properly and remove excess water
  2. Heat the cooker with oil add cumin, cloves, bayleaf, cinnamon stick, black cardamom, black pepper corn, green cardamom when cracked add chopped onion saute till it becomes translucent
  3. Now add chopped jackfruit saute till it becomes nice brown in colour on medium flame
  4. Now add given all spices, tomatoes,grated ginger,garlic paste, 2tbsp water,salt to taste mix it properly when spices separately lebreat oil
  5. Now add 1glass water(as needed) and close the lid and pressure cook up to 2whistles or 3whistles now turn on the low flame and cook for 3or 4 min now reduce the flame
  6. When cool down completely open the lid and mix chopped green coriander leaves and serve it stemed rice or ragi balls

This curry is a low-fat version of my mother's original recipe. The dish goes very well with steamed basmati rice or roti. Usually I make kathal biryani or chakka payasam or kathal ki sabji and kathal stir fry with coconut. This time due to the recipe request for a kathal curry, I asked my mom her recipe method.
