  2. Take 1 tsp. oil

  7. Prepare 1 tsp. tamarind paste

  10. Make ready 1 tbsp. rasam powder
  11. Make ready 1 tsp. garlic paste
  12. Make ready to taste salt
  13. Get 1 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped

Therefore i decided not to give it a miss. I have come across so many types of rasams but however, this. We all know about pine apple rasam and this rasam is pretty much similar to the pine apple rasam and I am replacing it with watermelon. The key thing in this rasam is to adjust the quantity of rasam powder based on the sweetness of the watermelon.

Steps to make Watermelon Rasam:
  1. Mix together garlic paste, tamarind paste, rasam powder, pepper powder and red chilli powder with some water add keep aside.
  2. Heat oil and ghee in a pan. Temper with mustard seeds. After it stops spluttering, add the curry leaves and asafoetida. Saute for a few seconds.
  3. Add the spice paste and saute till the oil separates. Now add the watermelon puree and salt to taste. Bring it to a boil and simmer for 2-3 minutes on a low flame.
  4. When done, switch off the flame. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with steamed rice or just as it is as a soup.
  5. Note - - - 1. You can add some water to dilute the consistency of the rasam. - - 2. To extract tamarind pulp, soak a lemon size tamarind in required quantity of lukewarm water for 30 minutes. - - 3. If preferred, some amount of boiled and pureed dal can also be used.
